St Petersburg

or Peter as we now like to call it! a little home from home. well not really but is much friendlier now the sun is shining. so so foreign though! strange alphabet and all doesn't help. managed to find a german boy that speaks a little russian so we decided he would be our guide.... v useful. so far been everywhere and done everything.. or that's how it feels. have walked v v far as we're doing this backpacking thing so saving 12r by not taking the metro (that's about 25p/4nok!) has been v v wet and now v v sunny, much better this way. jeans only just dry from the soaking on the first night, so all those travel books were right!
did get babysat first night by local guide. very useful as certainly a little culture shock on my part anyway. she taught us how to do public transport and some important russian like beer (pivo) and how to buy it!
today had a v friendly russian with a dog called dik talk to me for what felt like 3 years.. i think about lenin, catholicism and the revolution whilst cracking open a pivo on the bench. i'm not sure though cos it was all in russian.
have seen many cathedrals and big buildings. not sure what they all are but v impressive. will show you photos, promise!
off to the ballet tonight, well hopefully. our guide svetlana got us some cheap local tickets but we may have to pass as russians to get in - will let you know.....

Hallaien :-)

I'm sorry guys, for the norwegian text! It's so that Caroline get some exersise translating...

Lots of love...

Did you have to dress up as russians to get in the ballet? Hope all is well and your not getting too wet - i think we had our quota in the Lakes.
