hue and beyond...
firstly, check out the map - there's some photos on there and we'll try and get some more on today!
so, we left hanoi for hue on a rather crappy bus. not bad enough to make for an interesting story just not fun for a 12 hour journey. swamped as usual by hotel touts when we arrive around 7am, in our usual style we need to eat before thinking is possible. we have breakfast with a couple of english guys greg and rob and then go check into a cheap hotel. we were pretty efficient in hue - we hired a boat to cruise the perfume river that afternoon, checked out a tomb, temple and pagoda and found out about extending our visas... an unfortunate side-effect of spending more time than we had planned in china. next day a tour of the demilitarised zone (dmz) with a 6.30am pick up (ouch) - great to see but shame about the usual type bus tour with our 'war veteran guide' turning out to be about 18. we met a great aussie couple, anna and michael that we managed to catch up with later in hoi an. when back we found greg and rob again and just managed to stay awake long enough to have a fabulous indian curry - mmmmmm, local cuisine!! we left for hoi an the following day and decide to stay in the hotel we were dropped at (oops). well known for its tailors there's not a street without at least 10 on it...

so 4 pairs of shoes, 2 dresses, 2 board shorts, a skirt and a top later our bags are almost unliftable and our budget almost broken. we had a couple of great nights, the first we found a place with a free cocktail and then moved onto a place with litres of sangria... the second we met up with anna and michael and had a couple of buckets of cocktails too many. great fun but it did end up with guro and michelle heading home last and nearly having guros bag snatched on the way! she and michelle turned up about 4am giggling about how guro had clutched onto her bag dropping to her knees and michelle had actually given chase!! all fine, no-one hurt and nothing lost, although i'm not sure me and marc will leave them out together again :) we discovered the beach the last 2 days. absolutely beautiful - fun waves, nice motorbike taxis there and back, good cafes and sun loungers. even the hawkers were just handily around for all your pineapple orientated needs. we may have been slightly told never to come back to our very unfriendly, scheming hotel - a slight disagreement over the bill, so we catch our 2nd overnight bus from the tour office. another crappy journey and we reach nha trang but after sampling the beach in hoian we jump straight on the next bus to get to mui ne, a beach resort we've decided we deserve a 6 day holiday at! travelling is such hard work.... ahhhh....

sorry about any typos, is very difficult typing with my new talons!! nails now very long as really, really dont want to put hands in mouth ever again.
love to y'all
