Vietnam
Feeling that there was still a lot to do in China, we still managed to get our selves on the bus to Hanoi. It helped that it was the poshest any of us had ever seen! Mega seats and a little stewardess tending to all our needs. Met Kong from Vietnam who took care of us and made sure that the (quite scheeming) little ladies on the border gave us the right amount of Dong for our Yuan. He even explained that we shouldn't take it personally that the border police searched all our luggage (only the foreigners, no vietnamese or chinese were searched), it was just because of the APEC conference and because Mr Bush was coming to visit... They eventually let us cross though. After little Yangshou, Hanoi was quite a change. Mopeds everywhere, and so much noise! Quickly learned that the nly way to cross the street is to walk very slowly, so the mopeds can see you and avoid you. And sudden movements and you're going down. No traffic rules, just give way to anything bigger than you.
Hanoi is fantastic though. Lots of great little cafes and bars, and great food! Especially the training resturant we went to with Flerida and Tim (an american couple on their honeymoon) . It was a place where they trained youngsters with a difficult background to work in the resturant buisness. Trained them very well!
(must post this before finishing as we are in Mui Ne now - known for its frequent powercuts... more in a second)
