Road trip!!
Picked up Spanna and Kat (who we met in Russia before Spanna met her in China!) in St Kilda after a last organising session in the library. Headed straight for the great ocean road with great plans (which was not really to see all the information centres, but some passengers might have got that idea..). Passed beautiful scenery and got pissed on by koalas. But they were wild koalas in threes by the road! Amazing if you ask me.We meant to see the sunset over a bunch of apostels, so after lunch we didn't stop for almost 4 hours. But being Victoria it got too cold, so as soon as the sun disappeared behind some clouds on the way down, we headed to the nearest camping site. Put up Ben (big tent) for me and C (the tour chauffers), and little Ben (mini tent) for Span and Kat (the tour chefs).
Got ourselves all the way to Southern Australia (the next state west from Victoria) and Wellington the next day. Obviously stopped at about 14 information centres and all the view points. And Amy wet herself. She was dripping water from under her belly, but the mechanics (me and C and a random german man with very little english) couldn't figure out why. And she was happy enough, pluss radiator/brake fluid full so we drove on.
Kat was going on to NZ (hope it is treating you well, girl!) on thursday, so wednesday we didn't go very far. Just to the beach in Victor Harbor :) Were very happe that the sea there was warner than in Melbourne! Lovely swim even though the return to land was a bit traumatic for the one who doesn't like seaweed....
Went to see the little penguins in the evening. The tour was supposed to start at nine pm, so we rushed through dinner and thought we might have missed it when we turned up five passed. Only to find out that SA is half an hour after Vitoria. Half an hour!?!?!? Oh well.
This led to some more time confusion the next morning when three us us had a ferry to catch and Kat had a flight to catch... But we all made it!
Span, C and I got ourselves and Amy to Kenguru Island, if only just. Amy wet herself again! and this time the radiator was empty afterwards. But with a busy schedule and sealions to see, the mechanincs decided to go ahead and just keep topping up the radiator.
The sea lions were cool. Lazing around for days and days (after hunting for days and days) whilst their babies play in the sea. The clever cloggs they are they have picked the prettiest beach on the island and made it theirs ie smell of poo + protected. Headed out to the camping place and met Roo (see Please don't feed the animals) before we went to the Remarkable Rocks. Which we had all to ourselves! Made for lots of funny photos in the sunset.
We were a bit worried for Span having to tent all by herselves, but being Span she made new friends to keep her company, in this case a possum. Am sure Seb won't mind :)
The next day we spent in a similar fashion. Saw more seals play in the water - being amazed that they don't hurt themselves when they throw them selves on and off the rocks! Tracked koalas and swam at a gorgeous beach. Saw jellyfish, and Span was bitten by something leaving two little marks... probably not poisonous as she is still alive! Then just had time for some pelicans before the ferry back to mainland! Really think all should go to Kengu island.
Only a few hickups before we got to Kerang - had the road cover people out to look at Amy again. After the lovely manager at Wellington camping had started her in the morning... Amy has now got newly brushed battery-connection-thingies, seal stuff in her radiator and lots and lots of oil, so she is purring like a kitton again!
