Platypus :)

Another obsession of mine, so we had to go find them. Thanks to Lindsey (the one who flew to Fraser Island...) we knew Eungala National Park was the place to go. Off we hopp in Amy for a long long drive. We drove and drove and drove. It got darker and wetter (Eungala is a rainforrest after all) and we kept going. The last stretch is a very steep hill where the road winds itself up in sharp bends. By now it was completely dark and very wet, and the warnings about landslides in the area seemed quite real. So Amy closed her eyes. Can't say I blame her, but driving without headlights is really not easy! Esp when there is a huge drop on one side and rockface on the other. Slight panic, but luckily only two bends to go before we got to Eungala Caravan Park. The plan had been to camp in the nat park as they are cheap cheap, but we didn't fancy going any further. So made mash with onions for dinner and went to bed in Amy :)

But it all paid off the next morning when we got to Broken River to find Mr Platypus busily swimming around having his breakfast! So cute. Will fit one of them in our garden creek at home. And we saw a turtle.

Then headed back to the campsite where we had slept in Amy and told them our sobbing story of breaking down in the middle of the night. So they let us of without paying! Good good.

Another quick drive through lots and lots of sugar cane and rain, and we arrived in Airlie Beach. Met up with James and Cat (our friends from Fraser) and sampled the local sangria :)

Next chapter is sailing the Whitsundays (or wetsundays as they have been renamed), but that will be covered from next internet cafe as we are off to the campsite now!
Lots of love
