We reach Cairns :) :(

We ended up at Henrietta Creek that night, well aware by now that as in all rainforests it would be raining far too much to use Ben (the name for our tent) and we'd be spending another night in Amy (yes, everything we own has names... and personalities... and occaisionally we have conversations with them..........)

We went via the big gum boot (ooooooo) in Tully, having now racked up the big crab, lobster, koala, bannana, ram, mango and likely others that were so awe-inspiring we've forgotten. It was just a stop for the night but had a place to watch for platypus (fruitlessly) and a few walks (which involved crossing the river, impossible at the end of a prolonged rainy season.)

So from here to Cairns. Amy, again not keen on the rain decided to give us one last fright as she started and promptly stopped again. 2 spanish brisbanians from a nearby campervan tackled our batteries corrosion, but it didn't help that after she first cut out i'd left her in drive so obviously she didn't start... realising my mistake i put her in park, she started like a dream - the spanish guys were very pleased with themselves and the battery looks good for when we come to sell her! ....she still cuts out at low revs when she's cold :)

We arrived in Cairns Monday and yay its a few degrees warmer, but the locals are still on about having to buy jumpers and duvets. The idea was get to Cairns early monday morning and sort out everything for leaving oz; sell amy and camping gear and give whatevers left to charity, sort out insurance for my lost mobile, close bank account, get flight tickets revalidated for new dates, reap the rewards from our tax returns, register as vets in nz, find jobs blah blah blah and have the rest of the week to laze in the sun by the lagoon. It's a good job we knew we were dreaming. I can't remember any one of these quick and simple tasks that was either quick or simple apart from giving a heap of junk to the op shop. It's friday today, we fly in 17 hours and some (many) are still outstanding and its not for lack of effort! We did however manage to fit in a couple of days kiting :) and a night out at the woolshed with James and Kat (the english couple that were in our Fraser group) and some of their mates.

We have sold Amy :( to a dodgy dealer willing to drive her back to Victoria to take advantage of the remaining rego. We're feeling better and better about giving her to this guy. We didn't want to be responsible for some poor backpackers getting stuck half-way to Broome with any of the many ailments we know about being the problem.

Only plans for today are to drop by Quantas to start shouting (we've tried talking nicely) about a ticket dispute - all fine, still have tickets its just a money thing - and then go hang by the lagoon, maybe even a quick dip as the sun's come out for our last day. May even head back up to Yorkeys knob (its a beach) if there's any wind... the rest can wait until NEW ZEALAND!!!
