Isolated....
Check out the sexy thermals! cosy campervan :)
The sign by the bridge over whangarei falls, about 1m away from the edge! River in full flood.
Whangarei falls with colin the kiwi... we've aquired another 'pet' :)So, areas around here got 250mm in 12 hours not 24! thats wet for anyone without a clue. We woke up this morning after spending the afternoon yesterday reading and knitting (bought guro some wool as need a scarf) and trying to guess whether the electricity was off or on to power our small fan heater, to find that we were stuck. Not in mud, that would be too funny, but in Whangarei. The main highway SH1 and all little roads blocked by floods, trees, recycling bins, you name it.
We only moved the van a couple of times in the night, worried more for our insurance policy excess than the weather, but at first we were being blown about - after hearing a couple of motorcyclists were blown off the Auckland harbour bridge we weren't soo sure the wind wouldn't tip the van, then we were under trees - great shelter but kept getting hit by unknown things (we weren't venturing outside to find out what they were!) so then we huddled next to a couple of buildings. Daft thing is we'd paid for a powered site in the caravan park but there was no electricity and we ended up staying in the carpark! slight waste of slightly stretched funds... But we have a plan to reinflate said budget, more to be revealed later... and we both survived the night, yey! Heading slowly to Auckland today, SH1 just reopened :)
and you think your weathers crap!
