Meeting friends!
Have been on the road almost a week now, in our supervan!!! She is called cue, and you can see what see looks like on www.ezy.co.nz where she is called ezy cruiza. Comes with queen size bed, gas stove, microwave, dvd player and most importantly - the heated towel rail.We got cue on wednesday and headed for Coromandel town to meet Emily and Mark. The great weather from Queensland was still with us - great thunderstorm to watch! And as all the tornadoes seemed to hit the west coast of the island, we were quite cosy our first night in cue.
All the walking tracks were however closed, so after a quick wander on a beach, we took the scenic drive to Whitianga. Lots of cups of tea later (travelling with a kitchen is great) we met up with Cat and booked into Cats Pyjamas! Which means we stayed in the driveway :) So cool to meet up with friends from home when so so far away!
Spent the next day getting very wet at various sites along the coast - Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach (very hot water on a beach). And of course lots of cups of tea in the van. Got down to Mount Manganui in the evening and roughed it in a campsite whilst the others had a deluxe appartment in town. Ooooh, posh. No chance of close up encounters with dolphies the next day, so after a rather unsuccessfull kite flight (despite a new stick) and a brisk walk (Cat wanted to run...) up the Mount, we headed to Rotarua - the place of bobbling mud and rotten egg smell...
Just in case we forget, which of course we won't, happy birthday Fudge on next Friday!
Lol, G&C
