So we arrived in Napier and after driving around, popping into the tourist info and opossum world (you wouldn't believe how many ways a kiwi can use a possum) we met up with Melanie, Gavin and 2 1/2 yr old jack. Obviously we struck an intellectual par with jack and spent the next day and a half exchanging opinions with him on a variety of topics from trucks and building towers to what we thought about wobble bears boots. it was great and he's so cool :) we nipped out for a couple of hours in the rain, drove around the most pronounced art deco buildings in napier - annoying all the locals as we stopped mid street to snatch quick photos and then we saw Harry Potter. Have already budgetted for a copy of the last book for the 21st! Gavin cooked us some beautiful fish followed by melanies apple crumble with custard - can't beat home cooking!

we left napier yesterday and made tracks towards wellington. we'd been given recommendations for a couple of vineyards and a chocolate factory en route so it would've been rude not to stop in. as i was driving we were obliged to buy a few bottles so i could taste the wines later which worled perfectley as we're now staying with laura (friend from uni) and ashya who both didn't have to work today until 2pm :) the kiwi and boysenberry wines were a particular hit! and cheers for the half bottle of red em and mark, that went down pretty well too!

today we slept in, had brunch, walked the dog on the beach, saw lauras v nice practice and washed clothes. almost too exciting eh? reckon will stay here for the weekend, we need to be somewhere with a reliable pub for the rugby (oz vs nz) on saturday before heading to south island! can't believe there's only 7 and a 1/2 weeks until we're home! which reminds me i must email the locum agencies....
