Summer next time maybe?

The weather is really starting to be a bit of a pain. We spent Friday gathering mussels for dinner and watching seals frolicking in a pool on Whaririki beach as the family went out for the day. This gave me and gu a chance to play on the quad bike feeding out which was great fun :) Saturday we had to get moving, desperately tempted to stay for the pm trek we had to get to the shops as we thought we'd be out and about for the next couple of days in a kayak. That night we stayed with a lovely Canadian family in Motueka whom we'd met at the trek centre. We had a great night with a good bottle of wine and home cooking :) We set off early Sunday via 'Mot market' to Marahau, the start of the Abel tasman 3-5 day hike route and departure point for the kayaks. As it turned out a rare easterly wind blew up - the only weather condition they cancel kayaking at abel tasman. Gutted but making the most of it we had a lovely day taking a water taxi from Marahau up to Tonga Bay via Split apple rock and the seal colonies, hiking a few hours down the famous tramping track to Anchorage Bay where we were picked up and taken back to the campervan in Marahau. With wet feet but feeling good (we crossed a couple of creeks without taking our shoes off - the waters deceptively clear...) we started en route to Kaikoura, stopping in Blenheim for the night at a very indifferent caravan park. But the weather isn't being so kind to us, a theme for our NZ stint! The whale watch tour we were booked on today was cancelled, the seal and dolphins also a no go, which leaves us in an internet cafe looking at very dismal weather countrywide trying to decide where's best to head next. We will let y'all know where we end up but i see a little more woofing in our near future, especially as calving has just begun...
Hope you're all well, see you in less than 6 weeks! (unless you're in Australasia, see you a bit later...)
Love to all xx

Just a quick note at the end of Carolines blog to say thank you so much to Herborg for her NZ contacts! Would have been great to look them up, but unfortunately we've already moved too far south :( Will try next time we're in the area - love it here, so there will definately be a next time! Guro
