Tongoriro crossing

An amazing one day hike! after a recommendation from Mark and Emily we headed off at 7.30am on a guided walk - given the need for crampons and ice picks we decided the guide was a great idea! Stu and Stu were 'feeling the pinch a bit' after doing the same walk the 3 days previous so the pace suited us well :) The views are the best you can find, a highlight of everyones trip including ours. Our group of 14 were a mixed bunch but as always included a vet from the uk... girl called nikki and her boyfriend. Fortunately there was a general surgeon as well so if the shout for anyone with medical training went out we would be well down the list :) We had a great day, topped off by treating our tired little bodies to a thermal spa for just $8! before hitting the road to find a parking spot for the night. We ended up in a rest stop on our way to napier... running low on diesel and too late to hook up in a caravan park we headed for the warmer climate with the lower altitude for a great nights r+r. Today we arrived in napier and have already been to opossum world - which must be the best place in town. you wouldn't believe how much use a kiwi can make out of 1 possum! We're meeting up with Melanie and Gavin tonight and have been browsing the wine tour brochures again... but looking at a half day this time as the memory of the afternoon our australian tour is a little fussy!
Hope all are well
